Mild Steel Print E-mail

Mild steel is iron containing up to about 0.25% of carbon. The presence of the carbon makes the steel stronger and harder than pure iron. The higher the percentage of carbon, the harder the steel becomes. Carbon steel makes up the largest part of steel production and is used in a vast range of applications.

Mild Steel is strong and resilient and can be easily magnetised. This means that it is extensively used in motors and electrical appliances. Welding carbon steels with a carbon content greater than 0.3 % requires that special precautions be taken. However, welding carbon steel is far more straightforward than welding stainless steels.
