Flexible, heat free cutting options
Water Jet cutting utilises a high pressure jet of water with a pressure of up to 55,000 psi (3930 bar), usually with an added abrasive media. Water Jet cutting can be used with a wide range of thicknesses and is able to accommodate from 0.1mm to 150mm and with an accuracy of up to 0.05mm.
One significant advantage of water jet cutting is that the process does not heat the parent material, and as there is no heat affected zone there is no chance of burning or hardening the surface material.
An incomparable detail to material thickness ratio means that with Waterjet cutting very small and precise holes can be bored into extremely thick materials.
Water Jet Cutting is frequently more effective and often priced more competitively than milling and other traditional machining methods.

Why choose Water Jet Cutting over Laser Cutting?
- Waterjet Cutting is generally better suited for specialist machining such as cutting thick, highly reflective or temperature sensitive materials while Laser Cutting is generally better suited for jobs that need to focus on being economical and fast. While we will suggest which cutting method best suits you, here are a few guidelines for when to choose waterjet cutting:
- When cutting material with thicknesses over 20mm
- When cutting highly reflective materials
- When cutting materials that may produce toxic bi-products
- When cutting temperature sensitive materials
Why choose Water Jet Cutting over CNC Milling?
- If a lot of through cutting is required
- If 0.1 – 0.05mm accuracy is acceptable
- If cutting the basic profile as a start point for 3D milling would be useful
Advantages of Water Jet Cutting:
- Cutting from 0.1mm to 150mm thickness
- No shape too complex or too fine
- Cold cutting process avoids thermal influences or contamination
- Ideal for cutting hardened steel and other materials such as plastic and rubber
- No rough edges, burrs or jagged ends
- Environmentally friendly and clean production
- Less material wastage
- No tooling costs
